Legacy of Leadership

Janab Thangal Kunju Musaliar (1897-1966)
The name Thangal Kunju Musaliar conjures up memories of an era, when the call for independence echoed in every corner of the country. As a visionary, he understood that empowering an emerging nation lay in a strong and self-reliant economy. Thus, he pioneered the cashew export trade and soon built a vast business empire through impeccable planning and systematic implementation. By 1940, he had the unique distinction of being one of the world’s largest employers. To him, it means sustainable income to thousands of families. His next step was to bring quality education to the society. Indeed, his extraordinary foresight made him an industrialist, educationalist and philanthropist par excellence. The life of Thangal Kunju Musaliar exemplifies a personal drive with ‘vision’ in its true sense. The Government of India has issued a commemorative stamp in his honour.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The Program prepares students to:

PEO 1
Develop the ability to actively engage in architectural design exploration through research, and evaluating innovative approaches within the field by applying skills and knowledge in architectural design, practice, and technology; fostering critical analysis and speculative inquiry using innovative methodologies and critical viewpoints, facilitated through the atelier system.

PEO 2
Demonstrate a deep enthusiasm for architecture by actively engaging with social, cultural, and environmental issues involving self-directed professional growth, involvement in industry organizations, participation in competitions, and contributing to the community.

PEO 3
Exhibit adept interpersonal skills, effective communication, and leadership attributes to confidently articulate innovative and independent ideas while maintaining a strong commitment to professionalism and ethical conduct.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

Graduates of B.Arch. Program will be able to:

PSO 1
Create an ability to conceptualize and coordinate design that follows a systematic process of analyzing alternatives, ideas, theories by evaluating, and synthesizing ideas that include parameters on social, cultural, environmental and technological aspects of architecture. (Design: Basic Design, Architectural Design, Theory of architecture, Contemporary Architecture)

PSO 2
Demonstrate the ability to synthesize a wide range of variables into an integrated design solution. It is done by applying appropriate building systems, building materials and construction practices on sound research and design decisions across varying scales of systems and levels of complexity. (Materials, Construction & Services: Materials & Construction, Applied Mechanics, Design of structures, Building Services, Estimation & Specification)

PSO 3
Utilize modern software tools & other appropriate and alternative innovative techniques in a wide range of documentation, presentation, analysis and applications for design development of buildings. (Technology: Appropriate building technology, BIM, CADD)

PSO 4
Create a sustainable and responsive built environment by responding to the climate of the region, adapt appropriate technologies, conserve the ecology, environment, and landscape to achieve a sustainable development for the future. (Sustainability: Sustainable design, Landscape & Ecology, Climate & Built Environment)

PSO 5
Understand how history, art, and culture have shaped the modern world, through many varied types of creative works, human experiences and to raise questions on value and meaning. (Science & Humanities: Human settlement and planning, Professional Practice, History of Architecture, Visual art appreciation, Environmental science, Communication skills)
