Faculty
Multi-disciplinary professionals with expertise in their respective fields coupled with vast experience form the faculty of the School. Their experience includes academic and professional stints at IITs, European and American Universities. Many Successful Architects in Kerala can be traced to TKMCE. Their involvement in various workshops and Academic activities as part of visiting Faculty also gives impetus to the Design Programs initiated at the TKM School of Architecture. The Faculty is also actively involved in the formulation of the scheme and syllabus of the B.Arch programme of CUSAT.
Faculty Members
A graduate of TKM College of Engineering (1999), George Jacob received his Master of Architecture degree from LTU Michigan and is the Principal at TKM School of Architecture. George became a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional in 2006 and was part of the design team at Moseley Architects in Virginia, USA. George is a founding partner of GTA Architects, a research-based, collaborative design practice.
On completing his B Arch Degree from TKMCE, Dipu joined Design Combine where he worked on a range of high profile projects. He completed his M Des in Visual Communication from IDC, IIT Bombay. Later on, he went to pursue another Masters in Sustainable Design & Building Performance from UCD, Dublin. He teaches Sustainable Architecture, Acoustics, and Design Studio, with an emphasis on sustainable building and development at the undergraduate level.
Prof (Dr) Jolly John graduated from SAP Chennai with, a Master of City Planning from IIT Kharagpur, and completed her Ph.D. in Building Acoustics from Kerala University. She taught at TKMCE from 1989 and served the Department of Architecture in various capacities. During this tenure, she authored three international publications and was the principal investigator to two Govt. sponsored projects. Currently involved in teaching at TKMSOA while pursuing her interest in painting and mural arts.
An alumnus of TKM College of Engineering (2008), Jayaram pursued his higher studies at SPA, New Delhi. Jayaram joined TKMSOA since 2014 as one of our first team members. His specialisation lies in cost-effective technologies in buildings.
A graduate of TKM College of Engineering (2012), Aswathy M S received her Masters in Urban Design from College of Engineering Trivandrum. She was trained at Biome environmental solutions, Bangalore and Outspace, Trivandrum under Town Planner Jacob Easow.
Vishnu K, co-founder of Studio Commune (2016) based in Trivandrum has taken up several socially responsible projects including urban development projects and architectural projects. An alumnus of TKM College of Engineering (2012), he excelled professionally being a partner at EGO design studio, then junior Architect at Concord Architects and was later Consultant Architect at IL & FS (IIID/ITUAL).
Sibala completed her B Arch from RIT Kottayam and did her Post Graduation in Planning specialising in Housing from College of Engineering, Trivandrum. She had excelled professionally at JCJR Partnership, TVM involved in many renowned projects ranging from residential, recreational and landscaping before embarking on a pedagogical career since 2018.
Bigly Sathyapal is a passionate architect and urban planner. Her professional experience includes internships at Muralee Associates and Royal Haskoning, Banglore. She has published a paper on the Role of Wetland Conservation in Adapting to Climate Change. Other areas of interest include self-sufficient communities, cultural conservation and architectural documentation.
Nirmal presently handles the Urban Design studio with the concerned faculty of the tenth-semester students. An eminent researcher and architect, Nirmal has done projects for the state government and NGOs in his capacity as an Urban Designer. Nirmal enjoys his spare time exploring new places and is a food aficionado.
Niranjan is a partner at RGB studio based in Cochin. He is a winner or many prestigious awards related to architecture and sustainability. Niranjan handles design studios with the other faculty for the third year students. This combination of professional and academic expertise has benefited the design programme in the third year immensely. Niranjan spends his spare time travelling and photography.
Susan is an alumnus of TKMCE. After completing her Masters in Landscape she joined TKMSOA as a faculty and is involved in teaching Landscape Architecture to the sixth-semester students.
Prasanth is an architect turned filmmaker and photographer. He has been instrumental in setting up the Photography Studio in the institute. He has won awards in the short film category at various film festivals. His guidance led to the first documentary short film on Kanayi filmed by the students of the Institute.
Amshunath handles the design studio of the second year students and is aptly assisted by junior faculty of the Institute. A practising architect, his studio reviews are popular in the institute. Amshunath also represents IIA Kerala in sports activities in India in Badminton, Cricket and Table Tennis.
Athul V graduated with a B. Arch from College of Engineering, Trivandrum in 2009. He is trained at CMA Trivandrum and worked with RGB studio based in Cochin. After completing his PG Diploma in Traditional Architecture from Vastu Vidya Gurukulam in 2017 he entered the field of Architecture pedagogy and design practice.
Ashik's academic interests were focused on the practical and technical part of projects. Skilful in using software including structural analysis software, he has worked with Ar. Niranjan Das Sharma at RGB and Ar. Harikrishnan Sasidharan.
On completing her B Arch Degree from RIT Kottayam, Krishna did her post graduation at CET, Thiruvananthapuram specialized in Planning (housing). She teaches Humanities, History of Architecture and Design Studio, with an emphasis on environmental design principles inducing comfort and safety.
Sumaya instils creative thinking to structural theory classes for the first and second-year students. Her diligence and oratorial skills come in handy in explaining engineering concepts.
Amrutha completed B.Arch from TKM College of Engineering (2015) and received her Masters in Planning (Housing) from College of Engineering Trivandrum. Having professional experience from SOHO Architects, Kozhikode, she entered Architecture pedagogy in 2019.
Rintu teaches Engineering Mechanics and Surveying for the first and second-year students. She and Sumaya form the core Civil Engineering team among the faculty. Her interpersonal skills come in handy in coordinating the extracurricular activities of the institute.
